Blood Orange Cake

It has been years since I made a layer cake, it didn't come out perfect this time. But the flavor was so good, so I had to share it. Making a perfect layer cake is a serious art, it's intimidating and I was on the struggle bus while making this. Although, I do like the look of an imperfect cake sometimes, it shows that anyone is capable. And you are just going to stuff it in your gob so what really matters is how good it tastes, right? Right. 

The buttermilk cake is studded with blood orange zest, and the cream cheese frosting compliments the citrus flavor perfectly. I topped mine with a blood orange glaze, this is totally optional but I wanted to incorporate the pretty blood orange colors into the cake. You can make the glaze a little thicker, and it won't be as drippy as mine too. 

A little piece of heaven right there.^^
